The Commonwealth's Attorney is an elected constitutional officer responsible for prosecuting criminal cases on behalf of the Commonwealth of Virginia in Sussex County Circuit Court and General District Court.

Regina Sykes, Esq.

Commonwealth's Attorney

Regina Sykes serves as the elected Commonwealth's Attorney for Sussex County, Virginia. In this role, she is responsible for prosecuting criminal cases on behalf of the Commonwealth and ensuring that justice is administered fairly and impartially throughout Sussex County. She is committed to upholding the rule of law while treating all parties in the justice system with dignity and respect.

Almetia F. Hardman, Esq.

Chief Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney

Almetia F. Hardman serves as Chief Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney, assisting in the prosecution of criminal cases and supporting the overall operations of the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office.

Kateland A. Henson, Esq.

Senior Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney

Kateland A. Henson serves as Senior Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney, prosecuting criminal cases on behalf of the Commonwealth in Sussex County courts.

Victim/Witness Assistance Program

Kortni B. Ivey, MPA

Victim Witness Director

Kortni B. Ivey serves as the Victim Witness Director, overseeing the Victim/Witness Assistance Program. She works to ensure that crime victims and witnesses receive the support, information, and resources they need throughout the criminal justice process. Her program provides free, confidential services to all crime victims in Sussex County.

Kelli D. Wyatt serves as the Circuit Court Senior Administrative Assistant, providing essential administrative support for Circuit Court proceedings and office operations.

Jessica Lindsey serves as the Administrative Assistant for the General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, supporting court proceedings and administrative functions.

Constitutional Office

Role of the Commonwealth's Attorney

The Commonwealth's Attorney is one of Virginia's constitutional officers, elected by the citizens of Sussex County to a four-year term. The office is responsible for prosecuting all felony and misdemeanor cases in the Circuit Court and General District Court of Sussex County.

As the chief law enforcement officer of the county in matters of criminal prosecution, the Commonwealth's Attorney represents the interests of the Commonwealth of Virginia — and by extension, the citizens of Sussex County — in all criminal proceedings.

The office also works to protect the rights of crime victims, ensure fair treatment of all parties in the justice system, and collaborate with law enforcement agencies to address crime in the community.
